In California they were defeated 1.2 billion dollars in the lottery Mega Millions. The winning ticket was sold at a station in the city of Cottonwood, 200 kilometers from Sacramento. This is the fifth highest win ever. The identity of the winner has not yet been revealed.
Mega Millions: the six winning numbers
The win was achieved thanks to the six numbers from the draw on Friday 27 December: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55 and 6. The first prize of the famous American lottery had not been hit since 10 September.
So far the highest win recorded in Mega Millions history is that of August 2023 in Floridawhen the jackpot brought in $1.6 billion.
$1.2 billion ticket sold in California
Formerly known as the Big Game, Mega Millions it is one of two multistate lotteries in the USA (the other is Powerball) that offers a minimum prize of 20 million dollars.
It can be compared to SuperEnalotto Italian, even if the US lottery jackpots are significantly higher. It is no coincidence that the top positions in the ranking of the highest prizes of all time are mainly occupied by Mega Millions and Powerball. The ticket that brought in 1.2 billion was played in California, north of Sacramento.
Lottery officials said the winner’s identity will not be released until the person claims the billion-dollar prize.
In Europe the highest jackpot is Superenalotto
“Congratulations to the winner of the $1.2 billion jackpot from California”, commented the director of the consortium that organizes the lottery, Joshua Johnston.
“What a great gift this season! At this special time of year, it is an incredible moment for both the winner and all the organizations and causes that receive funds from ticket sales,” he continued.
So far, the highest win in lottery history is the $2.04 billion win in 2022 from the Powerball contest. In Europe, the ranking is dominated by the 371 million euros won in 2023 in Italy with Superenalotto, followed by the 230 million won in 2022 in the United Kingdom with Euromillions.
