It’s time for the first summary of the labor market in the IT industry. The first report on this topic was provided to us by the job advertisement portal No Fluff Jobs. His results with generalized summary – The IT employer market is still doing very well, the number of applications for one job opportunity has increased by up to 37%.doesn’t sound very optimistic, but let’s take a look inside.
New job offers in the IT industry
When it comes to recruitment processes in the IT industry, compared to 2023, last year there were approximately 3% fewer new job offers on average in almost every month.
Fortunately, the last quarter brought a rebound with a vengeance, when there were approximately 22% more new job offers than in 2023.
When compared overall year to year, the largest decline in the number of new job offers affected the Game Dev category, and the largest increases were on the Security side.
Number of offers per job position in the IT industry
The statistics on the number of offers per job position look less optimistic. On average, this number increased only by 10%, but when we look at individual categories or experience levels, the picture is not so rosy. The biggest increase is in the Frontend category, where on average as many as 149 candidates respond to one job offer.
Averaged over the level of experience, in the case of mids we are talking about an increase of 37%, and in the case of seniors 23%. Interestingly, juniors experienced a drop, but this is not a reason to cheer, because the number of offers for one place decreased from 105 to… 101.
Zuzanna Wasiak, Deputy of IT Recruitment Services Director, Square One Resources Poland:
The average number of applications sent per ad increased in almost all categories. As a recruitment company, we clearly see this in all processes, regardless of the role we are recruiting for. The employee market is transforming into an employer’s market, which makes it much easier to find candidates, also for more demanding IT positions.
Salaries in the IT industry
What about salaries? It can be said that it is stable – there are no longer spectacular year-to-year increases of a dozen or several dozen percent, we are talking about minor positive adjustments, with a greater level of experience and only with a minimum median range.
Of course, going from general to specific, it looks slightly different. Noticeable increases occurred in categories such as Security, AI, Agile/Scrum Master, Game Dev and Support – for B2B contracts, or Security, Agile/Scrum Master, Testing, Game Dev and UX/UI/Design – for employment contracts.
What technologies were worth knowing to count on higher remuneration?
Looking only at the median maximum spread, in the case of B2B contracts only Java technology saw an increase, but in the case of employment contracts these were all of the most popular technologies except Kubernetes (decrease) and JavaScript (no change).
Tomasz Bujok, CEO w No Fluff Jobs:
For a few years, we advised everyone who wanted to try their hand at IT to learn programming. Two years of crisis in the tech sector have verified this state of affairs, and now specializations unrelated to programming, such as data analytics, cybersecurity, AI or machine learning, seem to be a more reliable solution. Earnings growth, although the amounts are still attractive compared to many other industries, has slowed down, which cannot be said about the competition on the market.
Working mode in offers in the IT industry
Finally, I left an interesting comparison with previous years when it comes to the type of job offered in job advertisements. In 2022, remote work appeared in almost 70% of offers, last year in less than half. However, as you can see, this decline is balanced by an increase in hybrid work.
