Nelu Varga has provided new details regarding the professional relationship between him and coach Dan Petrescu (56 years old), after it seemed to have deteriorated in recent weeks.
The owner of the CFR Cluj football club spoke openly about the internal kitchen and at the same time did not shy away from admitting that, indeed, he had small disagreements with the head of the technical bank.
The professional relationship between Nelu Varga and Dan Petrescu is again on the line
The start of the 2024-2025 season was not exactly satisfactory for the CFR Cluj football club, and this aspect also came with a slight cooling of the professional relationship between Nelu Varga and Dan Petrescu.
First, the club from Gruia disappointed by missing the main phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League, after which, in September, the results in the championship were also below expectations. Thus, Nelu Varga did not shy away from saying publicly that both the players and Dan Petrescu are guilty.
However, tensions continued in October. For example, in the match Petrolul Ploiești – CFR Cluj 0-0, played on October 20, in the 13th stage of the Superliga, Dan Petrescu and Luis Munteanu had something to share in front of the cameras, a situation that drove the boss Nelu Varga out of his mind. The coach and the striker from Gruia had a verbal dispute for the simple fact that Louis Munteanu was introduced on the field in the 46th minute and replaced at the end, in the 90+4th minute to be more precise. Returning to the businessman who runs CFR Cluj, Varga raged in public again and put both of his employees on the wall.
It remains to be seen how the month of November will go for the club from Transylvania, but so far the situation is positive. CFR Cluj has a victory registered this month, score 1-0 away to Gloria Buzău, in the 15th round. As for the professional relationship between Nelu Varga and Dan Petrescu, it seems that it is also back on track:
The relationship with Petrescu is ok. I clarified it. It was a combination of factors based on stress, mostly psychological, not necessarily medical problems, and we understood each other. So it seems that we adjusted”, confessed Nelu Varga, quoted by Iamsport.ro.
What’s next for Transylvania: fierce duels with Dinamo, Otelul, Rapid and Universitatea Craiova
As I mentioned above, November started on a positive note for CFR Cluj, thanks to the victory recorded in Buzău. However, for the people of Transylvania, there will be several fiery duels in the coming weeks.
On November 8, CFR Cluj will play away to Dinamo, in the 16th stage of the Superliga. Only 3 days later, the Transylvanian team will also play away with Oțelul Galați, in the remaining match of stage 6. Then, on November 23 and 30, in the last two games of the month, CFR Cluj will receive the visit of Rapid and will go away at the University of Craiova.
Therefore, Dan Petrescu and the club from Gruia could face a new period full of stress.
At the moment, CFR Cluj is in 3rd place in the Superliga, with 23 points collected after 14 games played. The leader of the championship is U Cluj, with 30 points, and the second position is occupied by Dinamo, with 24 points. However, the latter both have one match more than CFR Cluj.
