Brno – Thirty-six-year-old American gunner Peter Mueller celebrated his return to hockey Kometa after two years with a goal and an assist. Thanks to him, Brno won over Mladá Boleslav 4:2 and jumped to sixth place in the table. Mueller was named the home team’s best player and told reporters that it was a great honor for him to get on the scoresheet in the very first game.
“It’s been great for me. To come back to an environment where I’ve been through so much … I scored a goal, assisted on one, so everyone has to be happy,” Mueller said at a news conference.
The coaches included him in the second attack next to Zbořil and Pospíšil, he replaced Hynek Zohorna in the formation, who was injured while skating. “We had other options ready, but this one worked too,” praised coach Kamil Pokorný. “He was the good old Peter and I believe he will be an important part of the team,” he added.
The American ace’s last game was on March 24, when his then-employer Wolfsburg lost the fourth game of the German league quarterfinal series 1-2 to Munich and the series 0-4 overall. His absence from the game was easily noticeable, but he was involved in two goals. Mueller spent 16 minutes and 22 seconds on the ice.
“I can’t feel my legs, it was difficult. I trained in America with a group of players who then went to the NHL. My friend Tomáš Vincour called and so I’m here,” Mueller named the current manager of Kometa and an active player last year.
Mueller played in Komet between 2018 and 2022, and in the 2020/21 season he became the first foreigner to win the Canadian extra league scoring. Back then he played with the number 88, now he chose 86, because the jersey with two eights is worn by defender Brandon Davidson. “It’s simply not my number anymore, but that’s not important. I’m starting a new chapter here and I can imagine ending my career here. The city and the club mean a lot to me and my family,” said Mueller.
