It will provide long-term changes in Turkey’s economy

“Supply Chains in Turkey: Addressing Sustainability through Deeper Integration with European Value Chains Project” was put into operation at a ceremony held at JW Marriot Ankara Hotel.

Speaking here, EBRD President Basso said that sustainability was addressed through deep integration between Europe and Türkiye within the scope of the program.

Stating that the program is the work of a shared vision for the future of Turkey, Basso emphasized that SMEs form the skeleton of national economies.

Stating that most of the businesses in Turkey face difficulties in accessing finance, Basso said, “This supply chain program was developed exactly for these difficulties. We plan to reach approximately 300 SMEs and 1000 suppliers in the next 6 years. Thanks to these efforts, SMEs will gain global value.” “They will be able to move within and access very important financial resources.” he said.

Basso also noted that by supporting SMEs, they aim to adopt greener operations and contribute to their digitalization.

Stating that the need for resilient supply chains has never been as clear as it is today, Basso said that the problems experienced in recent years reveal question marks regarding traditional systems.

Basso stated that the program will bring economic dynamism to the region by providing job opportunities beyond economic recovery in the earthquake region. Basso said, “This program is also open to growth. We want to expand it to more regions. We want to offer innovative solutions to all businesses. This supply chain program will not only create an economic opportunity. It will go beyond this and also provide meaningful and long-lasting changes in Turkey’s economy. ” he said.

– “THERE IS A GREAT POTENTIAL”

Ambassador Thomas Hans Ossowski, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Türkiye, shared the information that the EU is practically a co-financier for this future-oriented project.

Explaining that they came together to solve the problems of SMEs in their supply chains in Turkey, Ossowski noted that they aim to ensure that SMEs can integrate into current challenges and be a part of the transformation by strengthening some of their elements.

Ossowski stated that they were pleased to underline Turkey’s promise towards green and digital transformation with this study and said, “We see how committed you are to a smart, sustainable and green future for both large industrialists and small businesses.” made his assessment.

Stating that the trade between Turkey and the EU has reached large figures, Ossowski said, “We know that there is a huge potential. It is possible for this to increase further. Turkey is our 5th largest trade partner. Turkey’s companies work integrated into our supply chain and value chain. We are with you.” “It is important that we can make stronger investments together in a more sustainable way.” he said.

Ossowski stated that in the future, supply chains must be dynamic to respond to unstable situations.

Ossowski said that implementing these developments will prevent countries from falling behind and said:

“Sustainable and inclusive growth and fair transformation will continue to be the EU’s key priorities. We will continue to support the competitiveness of the private sector in science, technology, innovation and the development of ecosystems in Turkey.”

– “GREEN NGOS WILL BE THE PIONEER OF TURKEY’S GREEN RETURN”

Akbank General Manager Kaan Gür said that with this cooperation, an important chapter has been opened in Turkey’s supply chain and financing.

Gür stated that the supply chain forms the basis of every economy and that this project aims to solve the problems of SMEs, especially in the earthquake zone.

Stating that they continue to work to create fairer working conditions and value for society, Gür stated that financing the green transformation in the supply chain means great opportunities for Türkiye.

Gür pointed out that SMEs can improve the technical skills of their employees, as well as reduce carbon emissions and raise awareness, and said, “We believe that green NGOs will be the pioneers of Turkey’s green transformation, develop innovative business models and set an example. This mechanism is much more effective.” It will contribute to a resilient and inclusive economy.” made his assessment.
