BYD has a new electric SUV: the Sealion WORLD 7. It is a 4.83 meter long SUV that will arrive at Spanish dealerships in December with two power levels and two levels of autonomy.
Due to size, power, autonomy and sporty focus, it is a direct rival to the Polestar 4. It also stands up to the Ford Mustang Mach-E, although the Chinese SUV is cheaper than the Swedish and American ones.
Can be charged at a maximum power of 230 kW
Due to the number of models it has for sale in Spain, it seems that BYD has been in our market for a long time, but it has only been a few months since it arrived. Since then it has not stopped launching cars and it seems that it will continue to do so because it has just expanded its catalog again.
The BYD Sealion 7 is the latest addition to the Chinese brand’s range. Once again, it is a fully electric SUV, like the Atto 3, the Tang or the Seal U, but, unlike all of those models, the new Sealion 7 has a sportier approach, both in terms of design and in terms of performance. the technical part.
Stomach 4.83 meters longso we are looking at a mid-size SUV, but its design makes it look more like a crossover than a large SUV like the BYD Tang. In addition to having a very pronounced roof drop that ends in a large spoiler, it is wide, has very marked wheel arches and, in general, very aggressive lines.
In any case, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, it should be quite spacious inside; According to BYD, since the rear floor is completely flat, it is spacious despite the sloping roofline.
Also thanks to that wheelbase it can carry a large capacity battery. Depending on the version, you can mount one with 82.5 kWh capacity or one with 91.3 kWh capacity, both LFPs of the BYD Blade Battery type. The one with the smallest capacity can be combined with a single 313 HP engine or with the two engines of the AWD variant, which develop 530 CV. The larger capacity battery can only be combined with the two motors that deliver 530 HP.
The 313 HP BYD Sealion 7 RWD (called Comfort) with a 82.5 kWh battery capacity guarantees a range of up to 482 km in the WLTP combined cycle, while the 530 HP BYD Sealion 7 AWD with the same battery (is called Design AWD) approves 456 km of autonomy. The top of the range is the Excellence AWD, with two motors, 530 HP, a 91.3 kWh battery and a autonomy of 502 km. The 313 HP Sealion 7 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and the 530 HP one in 4.5 seconds.
The versions with the lower capacity battery can be charged in alternating current at a maximum power of 11 kW and in direct current at a maximum power of 150 kW. The Design AWD variant with the highest capacity battery also charges at a maximum power of 11 kW in alternating current and can be charged at 230 kW in direct current. In all cases, the heat pump and the V2L (vehicle-to-load) function for loading objects with the car are part of the standard equipment.
The starting price of the BYD Sealion 7 that the brand announces is 39,780 euros, but it has fine print: that rate includes 7,000 euros of the MOVES III Plan with scrap, another 1,210 euros that BYD contributes as “BYD support to the MOVES Plan III” and a financing discount of 2,000 euros. If we add everything up, the starting price (RRP) without MOVES or discounts of the BYD Sealion 7 should be 42.990 euros.
Even so, the BYD Sealion 7 is cheaper than its rivals. Among them is the Polestar 4which measures 4.83 meters long and is available with two power levels: the basic one is Long Range Single Motor, which starts at 65,900 euros, has 272 HP and a range of 620 km, while the Long Range Dual Motor It starts at 72,900 euros, has 544 HP and a range of 590 km.
The BYD Sealion 7 is also a rival to the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The entry version of this electric SUV starts at 49,205 euros with 269 HP and 470 km of autonomy. The Premium has 294 HP, 600 km of autonomy and a base price of 67,824 euros and the GT is the top of the range, with 487 HP, 490 km of autonomy and a starting price of 81,428 euros.
