“It’s not a normal injury”

Gerard Deulofeu has reached an agreement with Udinese to finish his contract. After two years out due to injury he told everything, explaining the reasons for his long stop: “Something that almost goes beyond biology”.

The tears on the pitch, the operation, the long recovery and now the termination of his contract which tied him toUdinese. Gerard Deulofeu he left the pitch crying during the match against the Friulians’ Napoli in 2022. The following match against Sampdoria only made things worse and from that moment the pitch for the Spaniard was just a distant memory. The former AC Milan striker spent two years away from the pitch due to the cruciate rupture he suffered against the Neapolitans and subsequent cartilage infection.

The player told everything during an interview with Sky Sport on the day of his official farewell to Udinese. In reality, from the Spaniard’s words, it is clear that it is almost a goodbye when listening to his words: “If I return to play one day I have no doubt that it will be with this shirt, for this club and for these people who have always helped me – explains -. We have reached an agreement to finish the contract but the relationship and support remain special.” But his injury was something truly inexplicable.

The moments in which Deulofeu left the pitch in Naples due to injury.

The player explains in a crude way what happened: “For two years I have been fighting against something that almost goes beyond biology – dice -. Now it’s better than in a few months and now let’s see how it will evolve later”. Udinese didn’t show him the door but for the moment it was better for both to stop: “We have always had an incredible relationship with Udinese, the fact that the club has supported me and is waiting for me has a lot of value for me.” And this is what the club writes on social media: “This is your home.”

Runjaic interrupts the interview after Udinese-Atalanta, he can’t believe what he saw: “It’s incredible”

But what happened from that match against Napoli: “I went through a bad period, two years ago I broke my cruciate against Napoli but I recovered and was able to play with the broken cruciate against Sampdoria – he explains in a note reported by Udinese -. The bad news came after that match when I found out I had to have surgery. Unfortunately, after the surgery, I suffered a cartilage infection. When it comes to cartilage it’s hard, the bones hurt because they impact each other, it’s something that goes beyond a normal injury.”

The long recovery and now that light at the end of the tunnel that he hopes to see again soon together with the pitch under his studs: “We have reached an agreement to finish the contract but the relationship and support remain special.”
