Electric Castle attendees, communities of content creators and RockFM listeners were encouraged to download the BrightSkyRO app, an innovation of the Vodafone Foundation, the only free digital resource dedicated to supporting victims of domestic and gender violence in Romania.
Vodafone and the Vodafone Foundation have launched a new communication campaign on the importance of consent to raise awareness of the right to say NO regardless of situation and place. The campaign “No is No, Whenever You Say – Consent Conversations” is developed and implemented by the agency Oxygen and complete initiatives Vodafone Foundation to combat domestic and gender violence. The need for a conversation about consent starts from a serious reality documented by the Vodafone Foundation and D&D Research through the most recent survey related to domestic violence in Romania. More than two-thirds of Romanians have heard of cases of domestic violence in the last year, but only 4% acted in this regard and alerted the authorities. Same survey shows that one in ten Romanians was a victim of domestic abuse.
The “No e No” campaign. Whenever You Say” debuted at the Electric Castle festival with a digital series of educational content that explores situations where women are encouraged to express their consent. The campaign emphasizes key aspects such as mutual consent, voluntary, without pressure and manipulation. Consent is informed and reversible, so you can change your mind at any time.
Electric Castle participants were challenged to complete a quiz which ultimately revealed just how many myths there are about consent. 65% of respondents correctly identified the situations in which consent is fundamental.
The campaign was amplified by the collaboration with the morning show “Morning Glory” broadcast by RockFM. An otherwise serious discussion about consent used humor and challenged listeners, as well as Electric Castle participants, to actively participate in the essential conversation. Starting from the most ridiculous hook lines that deserve a clear NO, the MorningGlory editions within Electric Castle had special guests such as Angela Galeța, Vodafone Foundation Director, Diana Lupu, psychologist, Adela Moldovan, psychologist, or Andi Moisescu, who spoke about the importance of consent, both in a festival context but also in everyday life. Guests also talked about resources women can access for support in identifying risk situations, such as the BrightSkyRo app.
“It’s not No. Whenever You Say’ also benefited from the support of content creators with diverse communities, male and female, who had an open discussion with their own fans about the importance of consent.
BrightSkyRO has more than 93,000 users, and the functionalities of this application have been used more than 145,000 times, since its launch until now, both by victims of domestic violence – mainly women, but also men and minors, and by those who choose to help in such situations. The application is available, free of charge, in App Store and Google Play Store in Romanian, English and Hungarian and in the web version Bright Sky (bright-sky.org).
Conversations about consent will continue throughout the summer, reminding everyone that “No is no, whenever you say so.”
