AltStore PAL, the alternative iOS application marketplace that has been operating in the EU since mid-April, has been expanded with four new applications, thus tripling the selection of the marketplace.
The common feature of the new applications is that they all came from external developers, i.e. they were not developed by Riley Testut, the creator of the marketplace. In addition, two of the four satisfy a long-standing need for layers on iOS.
The two biggest hits are undoubtedly iTorrent, which through AltStore is the first iOS torrent client whose operation no longer requires a jailbreak, and a qBittorrent control client, qBitControl, is also available in AltStore PAL.
Until now, Apple has consistently banned all torrent clients from its own application marketplace, the App Store, because, according to the company’s previous position, these apps are used in many cases to infringe copyrights.
At the same time, the comprehensive legal framework of the Digital Markets Act, along with opening the way for alternative application marketplaces in Europe, took away from Apple the opportunity to exercise full control over the application ecosystem – underline the The Verge reporting.
Two other applications were added to the AltStore PAL this week, one is UTM SE, which is also available in the App Store and can be used to manage VMs, and a dating app, PeopleDrop, which shows potential partners to the user based on their geolocation.
