It’s official, Toyota is returning to Formula 1

The Japanese giant left Formula 1 at the end of 2009, after investing huge sums in the operation of its factory team from 2002, achieving disproportionately few good results.

Toyota’s return exploded in the summer, and the rumors proved true: it was officially announced that Toyota Gazoo Racing would enter into a partnership with the American team Haas.

Within the framework of the cooperation, Toyota’s motorsport department will assist Haas with design, technical and production activities, the team will use its F1 engineering expertise, and of course, it will provide publicity for the brand.

Toyota pilots, engineers and mechanics will take part in Haas’ F1 tests, and the Japanese specialists will assist the team in aerodynamic development and the production of carbon fiber parts at the Cologne motorsport center.

The collaboration will be visible from next weekend’s American Grand Prix, as Toyota Gazoo Racing stickers will be placed on the Haas cars at Austin.

Haas has been in a technical partnership with Ferrari since its introduction in 2015, and their chassis were produced by the Italian Dallara. Since Toyota has not yet heard of F1 engine production plans, the team will continue to source its resources from Maranello despite the new collaboration.

Toyota Gazoo Racing currently participates in the World Rally Championship (WRC), the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the World Off-Road Championship, with the addition of Formula 1 activities.
