When President Arnold Rüütel, who left us at an advanced age, was still a boy, the then president of the republic, Konstantin Päts, visited Saaremaa. Of course, no one could have guessed at the time that the spirited young man would become a man who would stand for our people, especially rural people, with a straight back for many decades.
