The Jaecoo family is expanding, downwards for now. After the Jaecoo 7, in fact, it is the one that makes its debut Jaecoo 5directly from the brand’s headquarters in Wuhu, China.
It is a compact SUV which, having smaller dimensions than the 7, occupies a lower position within the range. Produced in China, it will arrive on our roads around mid-2025 with three different engines: pure thermal, full hybrid or electric. Here’s how it’s done.

The Jaecoo 5 is 4.38 meters long, therefore positioning itself in a particularly crowded but at the same time highly commercially successful segment. The design, clean and modern, is clearly inspired by that of the Range Rover Evoque, re-proposing some of the typical features such as the roof “suspended“, also in black, the side, crossed by a regular belt line (but without retractable handles), or the rear, with the LED headlights joined by a black band bearing the name of the brand.

The large square grille with vertical slats makes an impact, touched by full LED headlights with double horizontal daytime running lights. On the bumper, the vertical inserts contribute to giving an idea of robustness.
Smart doors that completely cover the stretchersso as not to ruin your trousers when the bodywork is dirty. In this regard, there are five colors available. The alloy wheels, on the launch version, are 18 inches and with a design designed for the best aerodynamic performance.

The trunk of the Jaecoo 5 has a capacity of 480 liters in the standard configuration. The rear sofa then folds down in a 60:30 configuration to reach a total of 1,180 litres. Among the various things there is a generous false bottom and a 12V charging socket. Climbing aboard in the rear seats, the occupants have more than enough space for both their knees and their heads. The materials used for coverings and assemblies are good.
There are two air vents, a 12V socket and other details such as pockets behind the seats, rear handles or a huge panoramic roof with 1.45 square meters of surface area.
The dashboard it is very elegant in layout, with a central screen arranged vertically which then reconnects to the tunnel and which is equipped with induction charging with ventilation to prevent the smartphone from overheating. Next to it there is another slot, without charging, while underneath the tunnel there is space for bulky objects and also three charging sockets: USB-A, USB-C and 12V.
Testifying to the care taken in the construction are details such as the customizable ambient lighting, the carpet on the bottom of the compartment under the central armrest, the powerful LED inside the glove box and, more generally, the alternation of materials soft covers of different types and colors in the upper and central part of the passenger compartment. A curiosity: the entire choice of coverings was guided by the desire to offer resistant and easily washable surfaces in order to accommodate four-legged friends.

The information technology compartment passes through a minimal dashboard without an upper lid and through the display 13.2-inch diagonal touch screen in the centre, which houses software that is very quick to use and full of features, including updates via the Internet and the ability to remotely control some functions such as pre-climate control.
Jaecoo 5, engines
The Jaecoo 5 comes with three powertrain options. To begin with, there is the “pure” thermal version, which can count on a 1.6 four-cylinder turbo gasoline 147 HP, combined with front-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.
The second variant, however, is that full hybridabout which at the moment there is no information other than the power, also in this case of 147 HP. Third, finally, the 100% electric version, which promises a power of 150 kW, i.e. 204 HP, and a 67 kWh battery. Further information and technical specifications will be released later.

As already mentioned, there is no all-wheel drive version but, for light off-road driving, hill descent control up to 60 km/h and cameras with virtual view under the floor are available.

At the moment the price list for the Italian market has not been made official. However, knowing that the base price of the Jaecoo 7 is 33,900 euros, it is easy to think that that of the Jaecoo 5 could be around 30.000 euro. What is certain is that the warranty will be 7 years or 150,000 kilometers.
