A 2nd-year emergency health care student was lucky in her misfortune when she was involved in a collision between a car and a deer one late June evening on the road to Rimavská Sobota. The Operation Center of the Emergency Medical Service (OS ZZS) of the Slovak Republic reported on this on a social network saying that the vehicle was driven by her friend Dávid, who, by the way, also works as a driver at RZP in Lučenec.
Reconciled with death
The difficult moments of the fateful night were described by the future paramedic Janka in her thank you: “It was a terrible situation where I came to terms with death in a microsecond. My friend braked the car with presence of mind, turned off the engine and turned on the warning lights. I saw a deer jump in front of our car on the driver’s side, all I saw was smoke and both airbags deployed “I remember the smell, the pounding of the heart and the adrenaline in my blood. I felt the hot airbags and I tried to reach the phone that fell to the ground under my feet.” Janka couldn’t even unlock the phone in that stress. When she finally succeeded, she called 155 without thinking because her friend Dávid complained of severe chest pains.
“I was picked up immediately by the operator of the emergency medical service, who was the only one in the given situation to respond promptly and lucidly. In that situation, I did not even know how to dictate the address where we were exactly so that we could understand each other where the forces and resources should be directed. In the end, the call lasted only 3 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity to me. The call was brief, clear, the operator gave us instructions on what to do and sent RZP, HaZZ and PZ SR to the scene of the accident.” adds Janka, who in addition to her studies often practices at the RZP in Rimavská Sobota. Rescuers from Rimavská Sobota were the first to arrive at the scene of the accident and provided them with first aid. They subsequently remained in the hospital for observation for three days.
“I would like to thank the operators of the Regional Operations Center in Banská Bystrica very much. The tables turned and I myself needed help. You do your work conscientiously and with commitment. You help those who need you. I know that it is not easy, you have responsibility on your shoulders , which we can’t even imagine. You are there for people who turn to you, and you are often the only light in the dark.” concludes Janko’s letter of thanks.
