The most valuable tennis player of the moment, the Italian Jannik Sinner, announced that he will not play in the Paris Masters, a tournament that runs until November 3.
The Paris Masters, the last major competition before the Turin Tournament of Champions, started on October 28 and ends on Sunday.
The leader of the ATP ranking, the Italian Jannik Sinner, announced that he will not play in the Paris Masters due to a virus
At last year’s edition, Sinner dropped out before the second round match. He made this decision due to the fact that the organizers scheduled the match with Australian Alex de Minaur on November 2, although the opening round match with Mackenzie McDonald had finished at 2:30 in the morning of the same day.
“It’s a very tough announcement. I will not play here in Paris. I came here very early to prepare myself in the best possible way. After the first training session, I really didn’t feel good. I also talked to the doctor on Sunday, it’s a virus that makes you feel sick for 3-4 days.
Today I already feel a little better, but the body is not ready to compete and I still feel very, very weak. It doesn’t make sense for me to go on the field and try to compete in this tournament. I’m very disappointed, because it’s a tournament where I’d like to see where my level is. This was one of my main goals for the current week. But unfortunately I can’t make it happen.
The most important thing is to recover and come back very well physically. Hopefully in the next 3-4 days I’ll feel better and then I can start hitting the ball. The main objective will be Turin,” said Sinner, quoted by ATPreferring to Tournament of Championsscheduled between November 10 and 17.
Sinner will be replaced by the French Arthur Cazaux, who had lost in the last round of the qualifications
Sinner holds a record 65 wins and 6 failures in the season and is sure to end the year in the leading position of the ATP ranking. The 23-year-old Italian, who won seven titles in 2024, was aiming to play at the Paris Masters for the fourth time.
Advantaged by the peninsular’s withdrawal is the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (85 ATP), with lucky loser status, who took his place and is exempt from the first round. In the second round he will play against the American Ben Shelton (19 ATP), who passed 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-3 against another Frenchman, Corentin Moutet (70 ATP, coming from the qualifications).
The Serbian Novak Djokovic, the 4th place holder in the ATP rankings, will not play at the Paris Masters either. He is the title holder, which is why he will lose 1,000 points in the world ranking. He has also won the trophy in the French capital in 2009, 2013-2015, 2019 and 2021 and played in the final two other times (2018 and 2022).
