The airline company Japan Airlines has solved the problem caused by a cyber attack on Thursday night.
According to the news agency AFP, the company states this on the social media X.
“We have found and taken care of the problem. We are in the process of checking the system recovery status’.
“The sale of both domestic and international flights departing today has been suspended. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause,” reads the notice.
Earlier in the night, a spokesperson for the company confirmed that it had been subjected to a cyber attack which affected the company’s internal and external systems. The message was that there could be delays and cancellations.
The company had network problems from around 07:24 local time, according to AFP on X. The cause of the problem was found at 08:56.
It remains unclear who carried out the attack, how extensive the consequences are and how many aircraft will be affected.
The company cannot state which flights will be delayed around 03:00 Danish time, writes AFP.
Japan Airlines is the country’s second largest airline after All Nippon Airways.
It is headquartered in Tokyo and has a total of 227 aircraft.
Japanese companies have been exposed to several cyber attacks in recent years.
In June, Japanese video-sharing service Niconico suspended operations because it suffered a major cyberattack, its parent company, Kadokawa, said.
Hacker group BlackSuit, which has links to Russia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
It demanded a ransom not to publish ‘highly personal information about Japanese citizens’, Japanese news agency Kyodo News wrote.
In 2022, a cyber attack disrupted a Toyota supplier’s systems so much that the automaker had to halt operations at the country’s 14 factories for 24 hours.
It slowed the production of about 13,000 vehicles.
According to CNN, it is not publicly known who was behind that attack.
