Jeep recalls 194,245 Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe worldwide due to fire risk

Jeep is recalling 194,245 Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe models worldwide to address the risk of fire after 13 incidents were reported.

The 154,032 Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids affected are in the US, 14,038 in Canada, 673 in Mexico and the remaining 25,502 in the rest of the world.

The company advised that the risk of fire decreases when the battery charge level approaches zero and advised owners to avoid recharging and park their vehicles away from structures or other vehicles until the necessary repairs are completed.

The automaker is recalling Jeep Wrangler 4xe with model years 2020 through 2024 and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe with model years 2022 through 2024.

Jeep said the fires started when the vehicles were parked and turned off, and estimates that 5% of the vehicles may be defective.
