Jeong Cheong-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea, the chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, said, “I very much welcome the holding of a hearing,” and added, “Let’s find out who violated the National Assembly Act.”
On this day, Rep. Jeong wrote on Facebook, “If the petition to dismiss Chairman Jeong Cheong-rae of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee is legally referred to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, I will also hold a hearing on it,” adding, “If the relevant standing committee is the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, then it’s okay.”
Rep. Chung emphasized, “If it is automatically referred to the Legislative and Judiciary Committee, we will handle it in the order of first-in, first-out. As soon as the impeachment hearings for Yoon Seok-yeol and the impeachment hearings for prosecutors are concluded, we will actively discuss it when it is our turn.”
He continued, “Let’s examine who violated the National Assembly Act and who followed it,” adding, “The Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution dictatorship does as it pleases, but Chairman of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee Chung Cheong-rae follows the law.”
Rep. Chung said, “So, I hope that you will cooperate with the impeachment hearing of President Yoon Seok-yeol and the impeachment hearing of the prosecutors without causing a fuss,” and urged, “On the 26th, all witnesses accepted for the impeachment hearing of President Yoon Seok-yeol, including the first lady Kim Keon-hee, the president’s mother-in-law Choi Eun-soon, and the Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, should appear.”
On the 18th, a post titled “Petition to dismiss Chairman Jeong Cheong-rae of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee, who is driving the committee into chaos” was uploaded to the National Assembly’s petition board.
The petitioner explained the purpose of the petition as follows: “As the chairman of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jeong Cheong-rae has a duty to run the committee fairly in accordance with the regulations stipulated in the Constitution and the National Assembly Act, but instead, he is using abusive language and threats, forgetting the dignity that the National Assembly should have, and driving the Legislative and Judiciary Committee into chaos.”
As of this afternoon, 45,527 people have agreed to the petition. If a petition for national consent to the National Assembly receives more than 50,000 agreements within 30 days, it will be referred to the relevant standing committee.
