Jewelry with pearls, diamonds or zircons? Price and durability vary depending on the stone

Jewelry with stones can be not only luxurious accessories, but also stylish pieces that make every outfit special. However, their durability, price and care differ significantly depending on the chosen stone. Do you know what the advantage of zircons is? What is not good for pearls? And what to watch out for with natural stones?

Pearls: elegant beauties from the depths of seas and rivers

Pearls are a symbol of elegance and femininity, which makes them a popular element for earrings. These jewels are formed between the shell and the mantle in mother-of-pearl or shells, where they are formed from the same material as seashells. Quality pearls are evaluated according to their luster, shape, size and color. For example, the bright pink pearls that are produced in the pterosaur are very valuable. However, there are also white, gray to almost black or even green-blue pearls. The advantages of pearls lie in their natural beauty, which matches almost every outfit. The disadvantage can be their fragility and the need for regular care. To maintain the shine, it is recommended not to expose the pearls to perfumes or hairsprays, and it is advisable to clean them regularly with a damp cloth.

Gems: gems with high durability and price

Another well-known and popular stone that is set in earrings is a gemstone. Due to its high resistance and unique shine, this mineral is very popular. And it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about diamonds, sapphires, rubies or even emeralds. These stones are obtained from natural deposits and then hand worked into the desired shape. A big advantage of gemstones is their already mentioned hardness and durability, which unfortunately comes at a really high price. It depends on the size, color and purity of the stone. You can easily pay tens or even hundreds of thousands of crowns for diamond earrings. Earrings, the price of which exceeds a million crowns, are no exception.

Zircons: a synthetic alternative to diamonds with a radiant shine

Cubic zirconias are a very sought after jewelry decoration. These are synthetic stones that are produced at temperatures of up to 2750 degrees Celsius and are often used as a more affordable alternative to gemstones, especially diamonds. “They are very popular in the jewelery industry due to their brilliant shine and transparency. Because zircons offer a favorable ratio between price and appearance, which makes them an ideal option for those who prefer stylish, elegant, but at the same time affordable jewelry. says Dominika Šťovíčková, co-founder of a Czech jewelry brand that offers original silver earrings without the allergenic nickel content. The disadvantage of zircons can be lower hardness than in the case of diamond, however, their value is still close to the hardness of sapphire or ruby. Therefore, if you want to preserve the brilliant shine of the zircons, avoid contact with chemicals, perfumes or hairsprays. It is also advisable to clean the jewelry from time to time with an ultrasonic cleaner, which will restore the original shine to the jewelry with zircons.

Crystal: minimalist elegance

Crystals, often referred to as rhinestones, are another popular choice for earrings. It is a gemstone variety of quartz and usually has a clear, vitreous luster that can range up to milky tones. Its transparency and purity add an elegance to the jewelry that suits any style. Crystal is worked into various shapes – from simple facets to more complex designs. However, the disadvantage is less resistance to mechanical damage, which means that they need to be handled more carefully. For example, compared to cubic zirconia, which has a value of 8.5 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, the crystal has a hardness of 6.5-7.5.

Often used natural stones: agate, amethyst, rose gold or turquoise

Popular natural stones that are set in earrings include, for example agate, amethyst or turquoise. Agate is prized for its unique layered coloring, while amethyst prides itself on its deep purple hue and soothing energy. Turquoise it is known for its bright blue tones and is often used in ethnic jewelry as well. Gentle souls can then appeal to jewelry with rose gold, which is popular for its soft light pink color. The advantage of these natural stones is their wide range of colors and shapes, which allows for a wide range of creativity. However, the disadvantage can be greater fragility and lower resistance, as well as the need for greater care.
