The labor market could undergo significant transformations in the next decade. Certain professions, such as cashier, translator or call-center operator, are in danger of disappearing. These tasks could be taken over by artificial intelligence, in a more efficient and economical way.

This warning comes from HR specialists, who are already advising those affected to improve their digital skills.

Digital marketer, programmer, hardware engineer, farmer and driver are five professions expected to remain relevant over the next ten years, according to a survey of the largest employers. In contrast, certain current occupations may disappear due to technological progress, he writes tvrinfo.ro.

“They will not disappear suddenly. They will start to decrease little by little. The jobs that involve (…) entering data into the computer. Now there are very good systems to take over such activities. (…) The telemarketing area, simple messages, advertising on that we address on the phone, artificial intelligence can take over some of them. Cashier jobs, for example where (…) we see digital kiosks in supermarkets where we can make the payment ourselves,” said Dragoș Gheban, the manager of a online recruitment platforms.

Only in 2022, with the updating of the nomenclature of occupations in Romania, 62 jobs that were no longer in demand were eliminated. Among them: telexist, telegram inspector and mail wagon boss. In their place, however, appeared 69 other occupations such as bartender preparing coffee, in short, barista, state councilor and music producer.

Human resources experts recommend that those who aspire to a future career master at least one foreign language of international circulation.
