Joe Biden accuses Trump of promoting rhetoric that threatens democracy

In an interview with NBC News, his first since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, he pointed to Trump’s rhetoric as the cause of the intensification of political life in the United States.

While he expressed how grateful he was that Trump was not seriously injured in the shooting, he highlighted the violence that is currently taking place in the country. “There is so much violence right now. There is no place for violence in American politics. And we have reached the point where it has become all too common,” Biden said.

The current president gave as an example the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, called by Donald Trump, who incited his supporters to protest against the election results of the 2020 Presidential Elections.

“I’m not engaging in that rhetoric. Now my opponent is engaging in that rhetoric: He’s talking about how it’s going to be a bloodbath if he loses,” Biden said, accusing Trump of inciting violence. Biden also suggested that it was necessary to characterize Trump as a “threat to democracy.”
