Joe Biden says he would reevaluate his candidacy if diagnosed with ‘medical problem’
Joe Biden, who has rejected calls from some Democrats to end his campaign, said he would only consider retiring if doctors diagnosed him with a medical problem.
“If I had a medical condition that came up, if the doctors came to me and said “you have this problem”“, Biden said in an interview with BET, when asked if there was anything that would make him reevaluate staying in the race for the White House.
Biden has maintained he is healthy and fit to serve another four years after his disastrous June 27 debate against Trump raised questions about his mental fitness and sparked calls from Democrats for him to step down .
Biden did not elaborate on what types of medical problems would force him to reevaluate his re-election campaign.
Biden has had three annual medical checkups during his presidency, each involving a neurological exam. In a summary of Biden’s most recent medical examination in February, his doctor, Kevin O’Connor, reported mild arthritis and said Biden was being treated for sleep apnea.
Doctor O’Connor called Biden “an 81-year-old man, healthy, active and robust, who remains fit to successfully carry out the duties of the presidency.”
