Domestic. Richard Jomshof (SD), chairman of the Riksdag’s justice committee, is now open to completely abolishing the controversial law on incitement against ethnic groups.

Jomshof was recently indicted himself for incitement against a ethnic group after spreading satirical images about Muslims on X. However, the investigation was closed, and the SD top has himself been strongly critical of how the law is designed and how it is applied.

Despite the party’s criticism, SD was involved and further expanded the incitement legislation as recently as last summer, so that it is now also forbidden to “denigrate the Holocaust” and the like.

In one new interview with the SD channel Riks, Jomshof states that he was personally against the extension of the law, but that he was overruled by the party.

– If we have made a decision democratically, everyone must stand up for it, including me, even if I can direct criticism internally.

He also explains that he is now in favor of abolishing the law.

– Either it includes everything or we remove it completely. Because it is selective and that means it is discriminatory, says Richard Jomshof to Riks.

According to Jomshof, one must be able to “say just about anything, even crazy things, and then we respond to it with words”.
