Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress secured a dominant victory against Zimbabwe, 100-30, in a huge 70-margin to boost their chances to qualify to the knockout stage at the 2024 FIBA U18 Afrobasket women’s tournament in South Africa.

The girls, who lost to Egypt 72-60 by a 12-point margin in their opening match, redeemed themselves, trashing Zimbabwe in a thrilling encounter.

They began strongly, securing a massive win, 29-5, in the first quarter while extending their lead with 56-12 to end the second quarter.

The third quarter witnessed Nigeria’s dominance as they maintained the lead with 82-24 while convincingly ending the match with 100-30.

The victory places Nigeria at the top of the group, alongside Egypt and Zimbabwe at the second and third positions, respectively.

Nigeria’s U-18 women’s basketball team displayed dominant force during the qualifying series, earning their place in the tournament after winning Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire in the qualifiers held in Abidjan.

Nigeria, which has reached the final rounds of the U18 championship twice—2008 and 2010—where they won a silver medal, is eager to return to the competition after its absence since 2010.
