Juniper Networks Announces New AI-Native Networking Platform with Wi-Fi 7 Support

Juniper Networks, the AI-native networking company, announced a new offering in its AI-native networking platform that helps enterprises take full advantage of the new 802.11be amendment standard (Wi-Fi 7), which delivers higher throughput, lower latency, better coverage and significantly improved reliability over previous generations of Wi-Fi.

Juniper’s wired and wireless LAN access solution, which combines the new Juniper Mist Wi-Fi 7 APs and Hi-Power Campus EX switches with Mist AI and cloud-native networking and security services, maximizes the benefits of Wi-Fi 7 while enabling a smooth, cost-effective and more sustainable transition to the latest wireless technology.

According to Juniper Networks, realizing the superior performance and scalability of Wi-Fi 7 requires not only cutting-edge APs and switches, but also robust AIOps and secure access to ensure a smooth migration to the latest wireless standards and continued best-in-class user experiences. Juniper is adding the following innovative new products to its AI-native networking platform to enhance the Wi-Fi 7 experience, extending its cloud-based wired, wireless and Mist AI leadership:

The latest AP47 series access points deliver high-performance Wi-Fi 7 combined with location-based services powered by advanced AI designed for Wi-Fi 7. These top-of-the-line indoor APs deliver ultimate performance for enterprises that require fast, secure, and reliable wireless to support dense environments and increasing mobility demands.
• The AP47 is a tri-band, four-radio access point supporting dual 5GHz or dual 6GHz operation and a dedicated scanning radio.
• AI-based RRM designed for Wi-Fi 7 automates channel/power/multilink operations using reinforcement learning to optimize Wi-Fi 7 capacity.
• The AP47 also functions as a converged Wi-Fi/IT/OT/IoT gateway with dual Bluetooth LE (BLE) radios and Ultra Wideband (UWB) to support advanced applications that deliver more business value and enhanced experiences.
• Two 10Gbps Ethernet ports provide high availability for data and power and seamless failover in the event of a failure.
• Three models are available to suit customer needs: AP47 with omnidirectional antenna, AP47D with directional antenna, and AP47E with connector for external antenna.

Juniper said the AP47, built on a proven microservices cloud architecture, provides a foundation for scalable digital transformation, IoT connectivity and personalized location services. It also supports OT/IoT use cases as a powerful, innovative, integrated, multi-function gateway that delivers industry-leading real-time location accuracy with built-in UWB location technology and BLE.

Key Features of Juniper’s New EX4400-48MXP and EX4400-48XP Switches
• Modernize your wired and wireless infrastructure with support for high-power devices like Wi-Fi 6E and 7 APs, increased multi-gigabit port density, and AI-native, cloud-native architectures that reduce operational costs.
• Streamline IT operations and deliver improved experiences for users and devices.
• The new EX series switches are the industry’s only AI-native and cloud-native switching solution supporting up to 3600W of power, enabling large-scale deployment of high-power IoT devices and migration to high-performance Wi-Fi 7 access points.

The new high-power EX Series switches, managed via Juniper Mist cloud, can power the switches directly, rather than through the building’s power infrastructure. This reduces inefficiencies and automates PoE status to disable building systems in unoccupied floors or areas. As a result, smart buildings with smart lighting can be built and managed for sustainability. These capabilities provide scalability, agility and automation to improve user experiences, Juniper explained.

The EX Series switch family also supports modern use cases with models that are ruggedized for harsh temperatures and environments. The new EX4100-H rugged switch series can withstand extreme conditions such as high vibration and shock and wide temperature ranges, making it an ideal solution for outdoor use in smart cities, factory automation, and other demanding environments that currently utilize Wi-Fi 6 and 6E and are expected to migrate to Wi-Fi 7 in the future.

“This announcement addresses two of the top concerns from our customers and partners: manageability and reliability for Wi-Fi,” said Sudheer Mata, vice president, Campus and Branch Group, Juniper Networks. “Competitive solutions in the market have recently faced challenges in configuring and optimizing Wi-Fi networks due to the expansion of available RF spectrum and the addition of Wi-Fi 7 capabilities. Juniper’s AI for Wi-Fi 7 leverages reinforcement learning to optimize channel and power settings, maximizing the performance and experience for end users and devices without manual tuning. This allows customers to move away from complex and difficult-to-troubleshoot legacy controller-based architectures to self-driving, AI-native networks.” ciokr@idg.co.kr
