He Department of Justice, Rights and Memory of the Generalitat has presented, this Thursday, the investment planning in the improvement of judicial equipment for the next five years. Among the outstanding investments is the construction of the new judicial building in Martorell, whose works would be finished in the third quarter of 2027. The tender for the work will be advertised before the end of this July. The planned investment is 21 million euros.
The new judicial building will be located at Carrer Montserrat 90, next to FGC’s Martorell-Central station. The secretary for the Administration of Justice, Iolanda Aguilar, explained that “the complexity of the area has delayed the tender. It is a plot of land that is next to the railway tracks and some studies had to be carried out for vibration and soundproofing issues. An easement of passage also had to be made, so it is a lot with a complexity that has really delayed the project”. Aguilar added that “it will be a building with nine floors, two basements and two semi-basements” and that the tender for the work “is planned for this month of July and is expected to be completed in 2027”.

The delay in the works, which should have started at the end of 2022, is mainly due to the complexity of the leased plot. On the one hand, because it is a plot of land with rights of way, which means that it was necessary to leave a free passage to FGC for the maintenance tasks of the railway facilities. The presence of nearby rail traffic also required a review of the structure’s approach, so that the construction itself could absorb the vibrations without affecting the spaces inside the building.
Currently, Martorell has seven judicial bodies scattered in six different buildings on Paseo Sindicat and Avinguda Pau Claris. The secretary for the Administration of Justice admits that “Martorell currently has a great disfunction due to the dispersion of headquarters in different premises in the Solàrium complex, some with accessibility problems”. The project’s investment is 21 million euros and will allow growth of “up to 10 courts, currently we have seven mixed courts. We are going from a construction of 2,300 square meters to 7,300 and with a deadline of twenty-six months” concluded Aguilar.

The Secretary for the Administration of Justice, Iolanda Aguilar, has emphasized that it is decisive to have succeeded in “planning and consigning resources to launch or accelerate projects that are very necessary for the territory” and has remarked that some of the stalled projects “are demands historical”. Finally, Aguilar also recalled that this definition and work was done “in constant dialogue with the legal operators” and “with a willingness to listen and understand”.
