At a quarter to eight Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived at the Presidential Palace of Cyprus accompanied by his wife Mareva. Nikos Christodoulidis welcomed the Prime Minister in the garden of the Palace, where the “Threads” art exhibition is hosted, symbolizing a map of Cyprus with the refugee routes, half a century after the Turkish invasion.
The presence of Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Cyprus, on the day of the “black anniversary” has a double objective, on the one hand the support for the Republic of Cyprus and on the other hand the need to find a sustainable and just solution to the Cyprus problem. The Prime Minister said that he is deeply moved to be in Cyprus, he represents Greeks all over the world and expressed his determination to do everything possible “to reach a solution”.

Mr. Mitsotakis agreed on the level of relations and mutual respect between Greece and Cyprus and emphasized that immobility should not become a new reality, while recalling the statements of support of the President of the Commission.
The Prime Minister’s speech is expected to be emotionally charged with clear references to the Turkish occupation and Turkey’s historical responsibilities, insisting that Greece joins Cyprus in all efforts to find a fair and sustainable solution, based on UN resolutions. At the same time, he will also focus on the part of restarting the talks, wanting to send a message with an eye to the future.
Nikos Christodoulidis: The next months are critical
The President of the Republic of Cyprus welcomed the Prime Minister saying that it is his special pleasure that for the first time a Prime Minister of Greece is coming on the anniversary of the invasion to pay tribute to its victims to the heroes of the Cypriot tragedy.
“We can reach a solution in the next few months which are critical. Crucial and bold decisions will have to be made, but we too are ready to make history and reunite our homeland.”
Fifty years since the invasion of “Attila” in Cyprus, the goal is the reunification of the island, emphasize Mitsotakis and Christodoulidis, while Tayyip Erdogan from the Occupied, insists on the two states.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis posted earlier on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus: “Half a century since the national tragedy of Cyprus. We honor those who were lost. And we claim a European state, united, based on UN resolutions. No foreign occupation army. And as the poet wants it: “A green leaf thrown into the sea”.
