Kafka’s manuscript will be auctioned in Hamburg for an estimated seven million crowns

Hamburg – On the 100th anniversary of the death of the writer Franz Kafka, the writer’s manuscript and letter will be auctioned at an auction house in Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday. The estimated price could go up to 280,000 euros (converted to over 7 million crowns), informs the DPA agency.

The five-pager will be auctioned at the Christian Hess auction house in Hamburg script the short stories The First Suffering (Erstes Leid) of the famous native of Prague together with a three-page letter from 1922. Kafka addressed it to Hans Mardersteig, co-publisher of the art magazine Genius.

Orson Welles’ original screenplay for the 1962 film The Trial, a film adaptation of Kafka’s novel, will also be auctioned. According to the auction catalog, it is said to be worth 40,000 to 50,000 euros. (Up to 1.2 million crowns). The 240 pages are pasted with variants of the text and many of the director’s handwritten notes and planned changes.

Next to 430 valuable books from various periods, the first will be auctioned at the Ketterer auction house on Monday book edition with the original cover of Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, the estimated price of which is around 2,500 euros (about 63,000 crowns).

The famous writer Franz Kafka, whose death has passed 100 years on June 3, influenced not only literature, but also theater, music and film. Kafka’s work often serves as a stimulus and thematic starting point for contemporary artists. Kafka, a Jewish writer from Prague who wrote in German, is considered one of the most influential literary writers of the 20th century. This year, various events commemorating his life and work are taking place.
