A CNN the statement was issued by the Biden-Harris campaign site, not the White House.
I will do everything I can to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation –
to defeat Donald Trump and his extremist Project 2025 program,” said Harris, who thanked Biden for serving as his vice president.
“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done all his life: putting the American people and our country above all else,” said Harris, who also mentioned that there are 107 days left until Election Day. In doing so, he admitted that he had very little time left to build his campaign.
“We will fight together. And we will win together,” he said.
Many people support it, but there are places where silence is indicative
Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency writes that many Democratic politicians openly indicated on Sunday that they support Vice President Kamala Harris to run as the party’s presidential candidate against Donald Trump after incumbent President Joe Biden suddenly dropped out of the race.
However, some influential party members, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have remained silent for now.
And yet the support rallying behind Harris is crucial, just over 100 days before the November election. However, there are many doubts within the Democratic Party about whether Harris can defeat Trump in November, Reuters notes. Biden himself endorsed Harris on Sunday, but not in his original resignation letter, but in a separate statement. After that, several powerful politicians and donors indicated their support for Harris’s candidacy, including US Senator Patty Murray. Dmitri Mehlhorn, an adviser to Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn and one of the largest Democratic donors, called Harris “the American dream incarnate,” noting that she is the daughter of immigrants.
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, both Democrats, also endorsed Harris in statements.
Others, including Pelosi and former President Barack Obama, have thanked Biden for his patriotism, but have yet to rally behind Harris or any other candidate.
U.S. Sen. Peter Welch, the first Democratic senator to call on Biden to drop his re-election campaign, urged an open process for Harris’ nomination.
