Jaanus Karilaid, who was elected as the leader of the Isamaa Läänemaa region on Wednesday evening, is working to ensure that the party wins the local elections in Läänemaa municipalities next year.
“Haapsalu needs a positive change, and (Haapsalu mayor) Urmas Sukles needs to be backed,” said Karilaid. “It’s time to say: it helps, Urmas.”
In Isamaa, the goal is to get at least one more mandate in the Haapsalu city council than the current mayor’s electoral alliance HaRi. In the last two local government elections, Sukles alone has received more or less the same number of votes as the list of the Center Party led by Karilaiu. In the past, however, the difference between the lists led by Sukles and Karilaiu has been only a few mandates. “We will exchange the silver medal for a gold one,” said Karilaid.
