Domestic. The Christian Democrats have now formally removed all obstacles to being able to form a government together with the Sweden Democrats, reports The evening paper.
The decision was made by the party council on Friday. According to the party’s new election leader Erik Nilsson, it is now politics and values that should be at the center, not the question of which parties get ministerial posts.
– We have no red lines. We are looking for support for Christian democratic politics and that it should receive as much support as possible, says Nilsson to Aftonbladet.
The decision to drop wording that previously excluded government cooperation with SD and the Left Party did not meet much resistance internally. According to sources within KD, a clear majority of the representatives supported the change. Only a handful of representatives are said to have been against the decision.
The Christian Democrats’ Youth Association, KDU, has previously been positive about SD being able to be part of a future government.
The decision puts pressure on the other parties in the government documents, which have so far resisted giving SD ministerial posts. At the same time, it opens up a new political map ahead of the 2026 election, where SD can become part of the government if the election results and the negotiations lead there.
