“Ketchup or mayonnaise?”: a gastroenterologist said which is more harmful

Ketchup and mayonnaise, popular among Russians, can actually be harmful to health. Gastroenterologist Elvira Beleva spoke about this, the portal writes 29.ru.

The doctor explained that for people who are overweight or have cholesterol problems, the most harmful product would be mayonnaise, because it contains a lot of sunflower oil or proteins, including low density. Consuming this product increases cholesterol levels.

For those suffering from surges in blood pressure, ketchup is more harmful – it contains vinegar, salt, various additional preservatives, and flavor enhancers.

For those who have no contraindications, it is better to stick to ketchup, Beleva notes. According to her, tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene.

In general, to maintain health and figure, it is better to give up mayonnaise and ketchup altogether. Or don’t use them every day. These are “garbage products,” Beleva added.
