Khon Kaen provides a Jacuzzi for “Moo Duang”, the grandson of “Moo Deng”.

Khon Kaen Zoo provides a Jacuzzi for “Moo Duang”, the grandson of Moo Deng, along with a toy made from old coconuts to enhance the animals’ behavior.

Ms. Thippawadi Kittikhun, director of Khon Kaen Zoo, brought a Jacuzzi tub to install in the hippopotamus area so that “Moo Duang”, “Moo Deng’s” grandson, can have fun playing. She also encouraged the animal’s behavior by making old coconuts for Moo Duang to play with.

Ms. Tipawadee said that after Moo Duang, a male pygmy hippopotamus, was born on April 15, which at first appeared plump like a pig, with a wrinkled neck and body, the animal care staff called it “coconut beetle” or “Moo Duang” when it came to eat. It is now 5 months old on September 15.

The Animal Behavior and Welfare Promotion Unit, Animal Care Division, Khon Kaen Zoo, prepared fresh chopped vegetables, morning glory, old coconuts, and a Jacuzzi for “Moo Duang.” For the animal behavior promotion activity held today, we went down to the pygmy hippopotamus exhibit.

So, we brought fresh morning glory, old coconuts, and a Jacuzzi for “Moo Duang” or “Coconut Beetle” to eat deliciously and play with toys happily while staying with his mother in the exhibition area as a gift for his 5-month birthday.”

Ms. Thippawadi added that “Moo Duang” was born on April 15th. He was born to a 14-year-old male named Nadech and a 19-year-old female named Yaya. “Moo Duang” is the grandson of “Moo Deng”, whose sire, Nadech, was born to a dam named “Joanna”, who is the same breed as “Moo Deng”.

Therefore, we would like to invite tourists in the area near Khon Kaen Province to come and see the cuteness of “Moo Duang” or “Coconut Beetle”, a baby pygmy hippopotamus, at Khon Kaen Zoo, which is open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
