Kia is collaborating with 42dot and Geotab to develop a ‘PBV Fleet Management System (FMS)’.
Kia announced on the 13th that it signed a ‘MOU for the development of a PBV vehicle control system’ at Geotab’s headquarters in Canada, with key officials including Kim Sang-dae, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia’s PBV Business Division, and Louis De Jong, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Geotab, in attendance.
Fortytwodot is the global software center of Hyundai Motor Group, responsible for developing core software for the group’s vehicles. Geotab is a global connected vehicle technology provider, providing high-level services to 160 countries around the world based on its outstanding software technology.
This agreement was reached through the three companies’ joint efforts to develop a ‘vehicle management system (hereinafter referred to as FMS)’ that will provide PBV solutions optimized for PBV users.
FMS is software that supports vehicle operation and control. It is mainly used by companies that operate multiple vehicles for business purposes, such as rental car companies and logistics companies, but a separate device is required to collect vehicle information data.
Through this agreement, the three companies plan to develop an FMS that enables real-time control using vehicle data based on a cloud server without a separate device, and then apply the FMS to Kia’s first dedicated PBV, the ‘PV5’, scheduled for mass production in 2025.
Through this agreement with Forty2Dot and Geotap, Kia expects to be able to provide individual customers with total mobility solutions optimized for their business environments, while also contributing to the ‘Platform Beyond Vehicle’ strategy by leveraging its excellent vehicle information data utilization capabilities and software development competitiveness.
