Kia’s PBV Platform is proving to live up to the Korean band’s expectations. After the international debut at SEMA a year ago (2023) and then the European one at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, here it reappears in the form of Multi-use Concept Van back at the Las Vegas event alongside another showcar: the EV9 “ADVNTR” SUV.
Exercises in style obviously but, above all as regards the van, the demonstration of how Kia’s electric platform can also work for applications that go beyond the strict use of a classic goods transport van. Created by designers at Kia Design Center America (KDCA), based in Irvine, California, these concepts represent a future in which vehicles offer the maximum in terms of capacity, adaptability, utility and organization, with an eye to sustainability.
PV5 WKNDR Concept EV Van
The name is certainly not among those that remain imprinted since it looks more like a tax code but, jokes aside, the basics of this vehicle are sufficiently concrete given that they are based on Kia’s new line of electric PBVs (Purpose Beyond Vehicles), designed for small businesses and urban deliveries. The one proposed by Kia designers is a highly versatile van. Raised and equipped with off-road tiresit can be the ideal vehicle for escaping into nature for long weekends.

The PV5 WKNDR EV Van features a extremely adaptable modular interior and easily customizable to maximize space and functionality. As they say in Kia: “a sort of Swiss army knife on wheels”. The function “Gear Head” of the vehicle represents an innovative storage solution that offers a sheltered external space for equipment, when the vehicle is stationary, maximizing the use of internal space and allowing easy access to equipment from the outskirts.

La “Gear Head” del PV5 WKNDR EV Van can also transform into a mobile pantry for cooking enthusiasts who want to “cook with a view”. Completely self-sufficient, the vehicle is equipped with solar panels and wheels with a hydroelectric turbine capable of reload batteries for different uses. For example, Kia installed a compressor on board to manage inflation needs: from adjusting tire pressure when off-road, to inflation of compact mattresses when setting up camp for the night.
