Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix HEV is the first Hybrid model produced locally in the country. The seventh generation of this MPV has undergone significant changes, starting from the platform used, its exterior and interior, to the availability of a hybrid variant option.

Inheriting several features from the previous generation of Kijang Innova, Innova Zenix presents spacious cabin space, customer-centric and environmentally friendly, the most prominent change is the use of the latest platform, TNGA: GA-C with a monocoque structure, replacing the ‘old’ ladder frame structure which is also installed on the Fortuner and Hilux.

Thanks to the use of this platform, it is possible to embed various technologies such as hybrid engines, new transmissions, including changing the drive from the rear wheels to the front, the result is that on paper the weight of the car is much more rigid than the previous Kijang Innova model, while also being able to reduce its overall weight.

Carrying the concept of ‘Glamorous and Tough’, the tough impression of a crossover car is embedded in the exterior sector, both from the front, side to the stern, several new components are installed, starting from the New Crossover Front Looks with the New Front Grille Design, which has been equipped with LED Headlamps.

Moving to the side, the aura of a luxury SUV radiates from the New Fascinating 18” Alloy Wheel, as well as the more upright A-pillar and the more sloping D-pillar strengthening the SUV body type, while at the rear, the three-dimensional structure through the New Rear Combination Lamp (Q HV & V) strengthens the emotional and dynamic impression, when driving on the road.

Moving on to the cabin, the Innova Zenix is also equipped with various latest features and technologies, including the New Panoramic Retractable Roof (Q & V HV) and New Captain Seat with Ottoman (Q HV), there is also a 10-inch Head Unit with Smartphone Connectivity (Q & V HV), New 10” Dual Rear Seat Entertainment (Q & V), T Intouch telematics-based technology, to advanced safety technology Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0.

Entering the performance sector, the Innova Zenix is equipped with a new TNGA 2.0L engine which is claimed to offer much better performance, by presenting the right combination of acceleration and fuel consumption, this is thanks to the optimal distribution of power and torque available in every engine speed range, with smooth distribution and according to the needs of the driver.

For conventional engines, Innova Zenix carries the M20A7-FKS code with a capacity of 1,987 cc four-cylinder Dual-VVTi, producing 172 hp with a peak torque of 205 Nm, while the hybrid version is supported by the same engine but with a different code, namely the M20A-FXS. This engine throws 150 hp and a maximum torque of 187 Nm at 4,400-5,200 rpm.

The hybrid engine is combined with an electric motor with 111 hp and peak torque of 206 Nm, resulting in a combined power of 183 hp on the system, the compact electric motor is also developed components in it to increase its power output. Including, a downsized transaxle as a power distributor to the front wheels which is improved in performance to provide the best efficiency and quieter when operating.

Both engine variants are combined with a new transmission, 10 speed direct shift CVT (code K120), which is claimed to be smoother and more responsive. There is no longer a manual transmission option for the Innova Zenix, the 1.31 kWh Ni-MH hybrid battery is now packed in a compact package and stored under both front seats, without cutting into the space in the cabin area.

There is also a filter on the battery cooling air duct cover, so that dust buildup in the cooling path can be suppressed to prevent decreased battery life due to increased battery temperature, Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix is available in seven grades which are divided into 3 main grades, namely Q, V and G. In grade Q 2.0 HV has been equipped with TSS 3.0 and Modellista option is available as an additional styling package.
