‘Killing Musk’s Twitter’ – British meddling in US elections

As we reported in our previous article, Donald Trump launched a legal attack on the British Labor Party after its activists traveled to the United States to help Kamala Harris’ campaign. Now new worrying developments have come to light, according to which

Harris advisers want to destroy Elon Musk’s Twitter,

which further deepens the issue of foreign interference in the US presidential election.

A most leaked internal documents Based on this, the British Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) — which has close ties to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s party — has set as one of its top priorities to disable Elon Musk’s social media platform, Twitter (currently known as X). The first point in the minutes of a CCDH meeting on May 31 is:

Killing Musk’s Twitter.

This British organization has been actively involved in “cleaning” digital platforms for years, and their main goal is to filter out content classified as disinformation. CCDH, founded by Morgan McSweeney, has close ties to the Harris campaign and advises the Democratic presidential candidate.

McSweeney is also one of Keir Starmer’s closest political allies and has contributed to the success of the British Labor Party by trying to disable their political opponents by citing disinformation.

The relationship between the Harris campaign and the CCDH has already raised questions, as the British operatives not only share political strategies, but also support censorship efforts in the online space. According to the leaked documents, the CCDH aims to pressure social platforms in both Europe and the US to introduce regulations against “dangerous content”. To this end, the organization is constantly lobbying in Washington, and even organized several meetings with congressmen, where they discussed the regulatory framework called “STAR”, which would require stricter control of digital content.

The British organization is particularly targeting Elon Musk’s Twitter, which the CCDH says is full of hate speech and disinformation.

The CCDH also tried to worsen the economic situation of the platform by putting pressure on the advertisers, as it did in the case of other media platforms.

Following previous accusations by the Trump campaign that British Labor Party activists interfered in the US election, the current documents further strengthen concerns about foreign political influence.

In addition, the case may also raise legal questions, since the CCDH operates as an American non-profit organization and is tax-exempt. However, according to American regulations, such an organization is prohibited from conducting activities with largely political goals or directly influencing the legislature.

Still, the documents show that CCDH is in contact with several congressional offices and is trying to gain support for regulatory changes affecting digital platforms.

Not surprisingly, between Keir Starmer and Kamala Harris campaigns close cooperation was established. The British Labor Party and the Democratic Party have long regarded each other as “sister parties”, and the “special relationship” between the two countries has now taken another worrying turn.
