“Kim Gun-hee’s special investigation is a one-way street”… Low awareness and poor performance are weaknesses in the run for presidency
While the opposition party and civic groups are fiercely attacking the prosecution’s investigation of Ms. Kim Kun-hee, calling it a “private business trip,” Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon also criticized, saying, “The suspect actually summoned the prosecution.”
Governor Kim said this in a post on his Facebook page on the 22nd, saying, “The prosecution, which was called by the suspect and went on an ‘expeditionary investigation,’ actually notified the Prosecutor General after the fact.”

This is what was said about the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office investigation team questioning Ms. Kim at the Presidential Security Service building in Changseong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. On the 20th of this month, the Central District Prosecutors’ Office investigation team summoned Ms. Kim to the government security building and questioned her face-to-face about her alleged involvement in the stock price manipulation of Deutsche Motors and the luxury bag bribery case.
Governor Kim said, “Since when has the Korean prosecution been an organization that bypasses the Prosecutor General and lets suspects come and go as they are told? Aren’t you ashamed in front of the people?”
He continued, “I would like to give some advice to Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok that it is time to make a decision about his future,” adding, “This is advice I am giving based on my experience of resigning from my position as head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination during the Park Geun-hye administration.”
He emphasized, “The prosecution has directly proven that the only way to reveal the truth about the stock manipulation and Dior bag bribery scandal during the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is through a special investigation. The special investigation of Kim Gun-hee is now ‘the only way.’”
Governor Kim has continued to criticize the government harshly since the Itaewon tragedy in the Yoon Seok-yeol administration. He is gradually increasing the level of criticism, and he is being evaluated as having embarked on a ‘colorful’ presidential campaign after two years in the 8th local government.
However, the low approval rating and awareness, as well as the lack of clear results on current provincial government issues, are being pointed out as weaknesses.
