Klein was not enough for Marterer. Slovaks lose to Germans in the final tournament 0:1 – Tennis

Slovak tennis players lose 0:1 after the opening singles match of the C-group duel of the Davis Cup final tournament with Germany.

Maximilian Marterer, who defeated Lukáš Klein 6:4, 7:5 in the team doubles match, took care of the initial point for the selection of captain Michael Kohlmann on the hard court in Zhuhai, China.

Jozef Kovalík and Yannick Hanfman played against each other in the second singles.

The beginning of the match did not go well for Klein, when he lost his serve in the very first game, and the German left-hander took the lead 2:0 after confirming the break. Marterer’s strong weapon was the forehand out of the court, his shots from the baseline had the optimal length.

In the next few minutes, he held his serve confidently and won the opening set in his favor. He didn’t let Klein get a single break point.

In the second act, both players masterfully won serve until the score was 5:5. In the eleventh game, Klein made three unforced errors, which Marterer used and broke the Slovakian number two.

In the next game, he was losing 30:40, but he averted the break point with a winning forehand down the line. Subsequently, he won two more fifths and won the first point for Germany.

He adjusted the mutual balance with Klein to 3:2, while avenging him for this year’s loss from the qualification of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, California.

C-group of the Davis Cup final tournament (Chuchaj):
