KNAB is developing an analytical platform to combat corruption

The Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption (KNAB) has begun developing an analytical platform designed to detect corruption crimes. The project cost is 1.3 million euros. Latvian media write about this.

KNAB emphasizes that corruption is a latent crime in which the bribe-giver and bribe-taker act as accomplices. More often than not, neither party reports the crime, making it difficult to detect. The nature of the crime is hidden from the public eye, limiting the ability for people to report incidents of bribery.

In the information age, when many processes are digitized, data becomes a powerful tool in the fight against corruption, KNAB is confident. Corrupt practices leave traces that can be found in various databases. That is why the agency is developing a platform for automatically identifying signs of corruption risks.

KNAB noted that similar analytical platforms are already successfully used by anti-corruption authorities in Lithuania and Poland. The platform development project received financial support of €872,000 from the European Union Anti-Fraud Program and €446,900 from the Latvian State. At the moment, the second stage of procurement is ongoing, and the name of the platform developer has not yet been disclosed.
