Exactly five years ago, on November 8, 2019, the unusual courier action game Death Stranding from the already independent Japanese studio Kojima Productions went on sale for PS4. On the occasion of the anniversary, the developers addressed the players.
A four-minute video published on the YouTube channel of Kojima Productions recalls that over five years, 19 million people joined Death Stranding: they traveled more than 1.5 billion km in the game and delivered about 3 billion parcels.
“On behalf of all of us at Kojima Productions, thank you for sharing this journey with us. Keep it up!” — the voiceover thanks the players at the end of the congratulatory video.
A separate video message from the entire studio on the occasion of the game’s fifth anniversary was published by the founder of Kojima Productions and the director of Death Stranding, game designer Hideo Kojima.
Kojima thanked players and cosplayers for their interest in Death Stranding and recalled that he is currently working on a sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. According to him, the project is now in the most intense phase of development.
The events of Death Stranding take place in the United States of the future, destroyed by temporal rain. Players take on the role of courier Sam Bridges by delivering cargo and avoiding otherworldly monsters to reunite a broken world.
Death Stranding is out on PS4 and PC, with the Extended Director’s Cut available on Steam, EGS, Microsoft Store, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Mac and iPhone 15 Pro. The game is currently on sale at a 50 percent discount on PC and Xbox.
