The Korea Economic Association announced that the Korea-Japan Future Partnership Foundation held the ‘2nd Korea-Japan Startup Cooperation Forum’ in collaboration with the Japan-Korea Future Partnership Fund at FKI Tower in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the 17th.

Last year, Korea Economic Cooperation and Keidanren of Japan established the Korea-Japan-Japan-Korea Partnership Fund to develop future-oriented Korea-Japan relations. They are continuing their activities to promote exchange and cooperation between innovative startups and large corporations in both countries.

On this day, 10 promising Japanese startups participated in the forum and attempted to attract investment by disclosing their excellent products and technologies to new business and investment managers of large Korean companies and CVC officials.

Japanese startup Mirai Kikai is the world’s first company to develop a robot that cleans solar panels and deploy it in the desert region of the Middle East. More than 60 robots are in operation at a solar power plant in Dubai, and the company has also succeeded in commercializing floor marking robots for construction sites. It is expected that robot technology can be used as one of the ways to resolve labor shortage amidst the low birth rate and aging crisis. In addition, Glafit, which operates a business related to electric personal transportation, Thinkcell Japan, which helps with PowerPoint production, and Zeroboard, which provides a platform for calculating and visualizing greenhouse gas emissions, participated in the event.

In his opening speech, Ryu Jin, Chairman of the Korea Economic Association, said, “The solution to overcome the realities that both countries face together, such as the population crisis and weakening potential growth rate, depends on startups.” He added, “Korea and Japan are the optimal partners for startup cooperation.” “The experience of Korean and Japanese startups in mutual expansion into both countries will be of great help to them in entering the global market.”

Masakazu Tokura, Chairman of Keidanren of Japan, said in his greeting, “The key to solving various problems facing Korea and Japan lies in innovation, and in particular, the power of startups is essential,” adding, “Compensating for labor shortages using robots will help solve the problems of low birth rate and aging.” He further added, “The realization of sustainability using biotechnology has the potential to contribute to solving the problem of climate change.”
