The Russian car market changed drastically after the invasion of Ukraine. Due to international sanctions, traditional Western manufacturers withdrew, but the Chinese readily jumped in their place. There is, of course, the domestic Lada, which successfully continues without Renault, and some forgotten brands such as Moskvich have been revived. Because of all this, the picture of the Russian market looks drastically different than before the start of the war.
The Autostat agency has published the latest data on the registration of new cars in the Russian Federation. In July of this year, 136,221 new passenger cars were sold in the country, which is 42.4 percent more than in the same period last year. The composition of the ten best-selling brands in the Russian Federation is very exotic and includes some brands that many car lovers from the West have actually never heard of, he says.

The absolute ruler of the market is Lada with 35,619 cars sold, and the second is the Chinese Haval with 16,671 cars. And all other brands in the Top 10 are Chinese. After Haval, Chery, Geely, Changan, Omoda, Belgee, Jetour, Exeed and Jaecoo follow in the ranking. But it should be noted that many of these manufacturers produce cars in factories in Russia.
As for specific models, two Ladas, the Grant and Vesta models, are at the top with 18,164 and 9,761 cars sold. The following is a series of Chinese models that otherwise do not play any important role in Europe or are not sold at all. They are Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max, Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, Changan CS55 Plus, Geely Monjaro, Omoda C5 and Belgee X50. Among them is another Lada, namely Niva Travel in ninth place.
In the first seven months of this year, approximately 855.6 thousand new cars were sold on the Russian new car market. The list of bestsellers includes approximately the same Chinese and Russian brands.
