Lamborghini Huracana successor announced for August 16

The successor to the Huracan is said to mark a significant evolution in Lamborghini’s supercar lineup.

His name is supposed to be Temerario (“fearless”), which is the name the media revealed earlier this year in paperwork for the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The head of sales and marketing Federico Foskini announced earlier that the replacement for the Huracan will premiere in August, and now it has been specified that August 16 is the Monterey Car Week event in America.

Since no mechanically connected Audi R8 is planned, according to earlier information, Lamborghini has the freedom to develop a replacement for the Huracan as an independent product, without any compromises.

The successor to the Huracan will lose the naturally aspirated V10 engine in favor of a smaller plug-in hybrid drive system, based on a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 800 hp and 730 Nm of torque.

The hybrid part of the drive will consist of three motors and batteries whose capacity and chemistry have not been announced.

One of the electric motors is sandwiched between the V8 engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and alone produces an additional 110 kW/150 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Lamborghini has yet to confirm other details.

Foskini claims that the PHEV V8 is objectively better than the SUS V8: “The package itself is much better than a normal SUS car. There are features you can’t achieve without an electric motor (such as active torque vectoring); gives you the opportunity to use the engine’s potential even more.”

Electrification is necessary because even Lamborghini has to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations.

The novelty will likely be a slightly larger car than the Huracan to accommodate the extra hardware required by the PHEV setup.
