Lando Norris has claimed his third Formula 1 pole position. The English driver demonstrated McLaren’s superiority at the Hungaroring, stopping the clock at 1:15.227. The race couldn’t have been better for the orange team, with Oscar Piastri in second position on the starting grid. It looks good for them.
Absolute disaster for Sergio Pérez. It’s not even news anymore that the Mexican has suffered his umpteenth accidentbeing eliminated in Q1 and destroying another Red Bull. Max Verstappen will once again be alone against the McLarens to prevent a third consecutive victory from slipping away this weekend.
Sergio Pérez, another Red Bull destroyed and eliminated in Q1
Norris will start from pole position in Hungary. The English driver won by the narrowest of margins, with only 22 thousandths of a second advantage over his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who closes a front row for McLarenIf they don’t make any mistakes, they are the big favorites to win.
Max Verstappen has come so close, yet so far away. The champion will start third, but only 0.46 seconds behind Norris’ pole position. Verstappen desperately needs to overtake one of the two McLarens at the start if he wants to get out of the orange spider web and be able to fight for victory. He will be alone again.
And it is that Sergio Pérez has crashed againThe Mexican has destroyed another Red Bull, this time in Q1, being eliminated at the first opportunity. Perez will start sixteenth, and it is beginning to seem unsustainable for him to continue racing for Red Bull. We will see if he can recover, because here he seemed to have a bit more pace than usual.
Aston Martin’s improvements are exciting. And that’s despite the fact that Fernando Alonso has had terrible bad luckunable to finish his lap on new tyres due to an accident by Yuki Tsunoda which forced the red flag. Even so, Alonso will start seventh, just ahead of his teammate, Lance Stroll.
It is to Aston Martin’s credit that they got both their cars into Q3, because Mercedes did not. George Russell was eliminated in Q1while Lewis Hamilton almost went out in Q2. In the end, the seven-time champion was just three hundredths of a second behind and managed to scrape together a good fifth position on the grid.

Ferrari is doing better in Hungary, but it doesn’t seem like enough to win. Carlos Sainz will start fourthbeating an erratic Charles Leclerc, sixth. We’ll see if the Spaniard at least manages to get onto the podium. The other driver who made it into Q3 was Daniel Ricciardo, who could only beat his teammate Tsunoda to finish ninth.
