Old women’s summer is like the last sliver of summer that embraces autumn with its waning warmth.

Opinions differ as to when exactly the summer of old ladies is. According to the dictionary, the summer of old women is a warm time in autumn (second half of September or October). It is after summer or rear summer, as it is said in the Võru dialect. Weather forecaster Taimi Paljak mentioned to Lääne Elu that the old woman’s summer is described as one where “the nights are cool and the days are sunny and warm”.
