Large increase in the purchase of electric cars in Jutland municipalities in 2024

Eight out of the ten municipalities that in 2024 have experienced the greatest increase in the sale of electric cars are in Jutland.

Lemvig is the municipality that has seen the largest increase, and Aarhus is the municipality that has had the largest sales of electric cars

It is particularly in municipalities where there have not yet been such high sales of electric cars in 2023 that the increase has been large.

At the top of the list is Lemvig, where car sales increased by 101 percent. Second and third place goes to Ærø and Struer respectively.

This is shown by new figures from the Ministry of Taxation.

According to Tax Minister Rasmus Stoklund (S), the figures show that electric cars have become more accessible to ordinary Danes. This is partly due to the fact that there are now cars that can drive longer distances.

This has made it easier for people who live further away from the cities to make the electric car fit into their everyday life.

– I am delighted that the electric car has become the Danes’ preferred choice. It’s good for the climate, and it’s going in the right direction. We will get more green cars on the roads, and I think that is, of course, positive, says Tax Minister Rasmus Stoklund.

He also points out that the prices of electric cars have fallen and that more smaller electric cars have come on the market.

At the same time, the used car market has begun to increasingly trade in electric cars, which makes electric cars more accessible to more Danes.

– The development shows that it has become available to more people to buy an electric car. In the beginning, it was probably mainly people with fairly high incomes who could afford to buy an electric car, says Stoklund.

It is the municipalities with the largest cities that top the list of how many electric cars are sold.

Aarhus scores the highest, followed by Copenhagen and Aalborg. In Aarhus, 5,912 electric cars were bought in 2024.

Eight of the ten municipalities that bought the most electric cars in 2024 are in Jutland.

According to the tax minister, the development indicates that from the political side there must be a focus on electric cars.

– We must continue to ensure that the infrastructure is well connected with the development of the car stock, says Rasmus Stoklund.

– Right here and now I don’t have a particular focus in connection with the infrastructure, but it is clear that something like charging stations are absolutely crucial, he adds.

In addition, he points to negotiations in the Folketing in the new year, where he believes that the tax structure must be a topic of discussion so that it does not become “disproportionately expensive to buy electric cars”.

When you look at the sales of cars per capita, they are more evenly distributed throughout the country. Hørsholm Municipality scores the highest with 26.3 sold electric cars per 1,000 inhabitants.

In the top ten, five of the municipalities are from Jutland, four from Zealand and one from Funen.
