Developers from Belgian Larian Studios have revealed new details about the seventh major patch for their fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3, including its place in the project’s post-release support.
The closed beta of the upcoming update will begin on Steam on July 22. Registration is open — you can submit an application (the “Request access” button) on the game’s page in the Valve service. The patch itself is still planned for release in September.
As part of beta testing, the developers want to test planned fixes, improvements, and innovations on different PC configurations and save files. They need help from ordinary users to do this.
The two main features of patch 7 will be the expansion of the “evil” endings (for the Dark Seduction, other characters with backstories, and unique heroes) and modding tools (currently in closed alpha).
In addition, the developers talked about other improvements in the update:
Dynamic split-screen for local co-op; Legendary actions added to several more enemies in Valor (Dror Ragzlin, Malus Torm, Chirai Harrak, Chirai Tskaan, Ptaris); Bug fixes for Dark Seduction and the ability to temporarily ally with a specific bard; Bug fixes for other characters with backstories; Fixes and improvements for Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Astarion, Karlah, Will, and Gale; Squad dialogue improvements now available in multiplayer.
Larian assured that the seventh patch will not be the last for Baldur’s Gate 3. In the future, the team promises crossplay, photo mode, bug fixes, gameplay innovations and optimization improvements: “We are not saying goodbye yet.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 left Early Access on PC (Steam, GOG) last August, and has since made its way to Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X, and S. Eleven months after its release, the game continues to win Game of the Year awards.
