Lasconi, on the vote recount: It is a clear attempt to manipulate the election results
The decision of the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) to recount the votes in the presidential elections, taken at the request of the Constitutional Court of Romania, is an abuse and a direct attack on the electoral process and democracy in Romania, USR declared.
“It is obvious that what we see now is the desperation of a system that does not know how to lose. They know that we are the end of their power and today they are attacking the foundation of democracy, the elections, the people’s vote. He is trying at all costs to undermine the will of the Romanians”, declared Elena Lasconi, for her part.
According to her, this is “a clear attempt to manipulate the results of the elections and to deepen the crisis in the state institutions, in politics, precisely that mistrust that also led to the growth of extremism. I tell them once more: no one, no politician, even appointed to the CCR, can elect the president of Romania. The president must be chosen by the Romanians, by vote”.
USR is of the opinion that “the BEC’s decision to recount the votes raises a lot of suspicions. During the operations of receiving, transporting and unsealing the bags with the electoral materials, if it is found that the seal was broken before receiving a bag at the Electoral Office headquarters, this aspect should be recorded in the minutes, because the process will continue as if nothing would have happened.
In addition, in the decision of the BEC, nothing is mentioned related to the filming of the electoral process, related to the independent observers, not even to the members of the polling stations. The entire recounting process will be ensured by a small group of people, without any transparency, unlike the normal process of counting votes, which involves 150,000 representatives of political parties in the polling stations”.
“How can such a process be safer? It is obvious that BEC wants to create confusion and chaos. The recount of the votes, decided without any explanation from the CCR, without a clear system of transparency, without the participation of independent observers, only demonstrates the desperation of those who want to defraud the democratic process”, added Elena Lasconi.
Thus, the Save Romania Union said that it will contest the decision to recount the votes at the Court of Appeal and will also notify the Venice Commission.
“It is our duty, in these moments, to defend democracy. We must come in as large a number as possible to vote on Sunday. Our vote remains the only solution to end this corrupt system. We stop the system of the old politicians, we stop the extremism that wants to take us out of Europe just by voting. I am here to defend democracy and I call all Romanians to join me”, concluded Elena Lasconi.
