Donald Trump will be inaugurated as US president only on January 20. US law stipulates an 11-week transition period during which the old administration organizes itself to make way for the new administration. Under these conditions, Romania has good news.
Romania complied with the criteria regarding the visa refusal rate within the Visa Waiver Program. Specifically, it fell below the 3% threshold provided by American legislation, thus complying with one of the main conditions for accessing the program, according to a press release from the Romanian Embassy in the USA.
Therefore, Romanians will be able to travel to the USA without a visa soon, something that has been tried for a long time but without success.
“The dream of Romanians to travel visa-free to the United States of America is getting closer! The conclusions of the American team to evaluate the fulfillment of the criteria for Romania’s admission to the Visa Waiver Program certify the seriousness of the efforts that we, the Government of Romania, and every Romanian who contributed to this result by successfully applying or renewing their US visa have made.
I thank all those who were involved in the fulfillment of this important objective, which will further strengthen Romania’s relationship with our strategic partner overseas”, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu also conveyed through a press release.
What the USA conveys to Romanians
“We are optimistic about a favorable decision by the US Government to include Romania in the Visa Waiver Program. We anticipate that there will be a period of careful preparation and public information before any changes to the current visa requirements can be implemented”, is the message of the representatives of the US Embassy.
Also, Kathleen Kavalec, the US ambassador to Romania, appointed by the Biden Administration and who in the next mandate could be replaced by Donald Trump, raised the issue of the elections in our country, stating that “people who vote for change are not an unusual thing” , that this is “the essence of democracy” and emphasized that “the United States does not tell other democracies who to elect.” “But there should be no doubt about the value of the transatlantic alliance,” she pointed out, appropriately News18.
