A total of 1.53 million foreign and local guests stayed in Latvian tourist accommodation in the first seven months of this year. This is 9.7% more than in the first seven months of last year, but 6.8% less than in the first seven months of 2019, i.e. before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the data compiled by the Central Statistics Office (CSB).
Such a large number of tourists, as there was before the pandemic, has been reached this summer in July, when traveling was very intense, thanks to both the warm summer weather and the vacation period.
Spends 2-3 days
In July 2024, a total of 400.7 thousand foreign and local guests stayed overnight in Latvian tourist accommodation. This is 7.2% more than in July 2023. Guests spent 719.1 thousand nights in tourist accommodation, which is 2.2% more compared to July last year.
“July of this year was the first month when the total number of overnight guests reached the level of 2019. That year, 400.2 thousand travelers stayed in Latvian tourist accommodation. However, the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation in the seventh month of this year was 8.3% less compared to 2019 . the corresponding month of the year,” explains CSB.
59.2% of the guests staying overnight in Latvian tourist accommodation in July this year were foreign travelers, and their total number reached 237.2 thousand. This is 10.4% more than last July, but 12% less than July 2019. CSB states that the war in Ukraine caused by Russia has an impact, which reduces the interest of foreign tourists in Latvia (and in other countries located near Russia and Ukraine).
In July 2024, the number of nights spent by foreign travelers in Latvia, compared to July last year, increased by 6% and was 429.8 thousand.
